Workshopinfo The topic of diversity is being discussed everywhere, sometimes seriously, sometimes critically, quite often merely as an institutional fig leaf. However, it is important to understand concept of diversity and its various categories in more detail – especially in the academic world, which, by insisting on an universal approach and its own objectivity, still denies the realities of lived experiences inside and outside the institution. The next step is to ask how diversity can be put into practice in academia. An intersectional perspective is necessary here, because only by considering the interplay of various categories of diversity can we achieve a practice that is oriented towards real-life situations. This workshop aims to introduce the concepts of diversity and intersectionality, and to invite participants to define their own personal and professional positions and intersections in social hierarchies. The workshop will also explore different perspectives and ways to promote compassion and justice.
