What is considered good writing in your discipline? We will discuss the conventions of Anglo-Saxon academic style as well as the different approaches to style among different writing cultures (for example, the German academic writing culture) for different audiences and different disciplines. Participants are asked to bring in some of their own writing, and to bring in two articles from their discipline: one that they consider especially well written and one that they consider very poorly written. We will especially look at clarity, coherence, and flow and offer some tips on how to improve your style.
